Softening Hard Water - Water Softening

The result of hard tap water or well water is stubborn limescale buildup in pipes and/or equipment. This limescale is caused by the dissolved hardness salts in the water, primarily Calcium and Magnesium. Unlike other minerals, the solubility of these salts decreases as the water temperature increases. The limescale (boiler scale) that forms as a result causes many problems in heat exchangers, heating elements, and pipe bundles in steam systems. The consequences include energy loss, system malfunctions, and frequent maintenance. In short, hard water leads to unnecessary problems and additional costs.

The Solution

To produce soft water from regular tap water or water from a private well, Wairtec offers various water softeners. The core of a water softener consists of a resin filling - a polymer - capable of binding the hardness-forming Calcium and Magnesium. Once the resin filling of the water softener is fully "contaminated" with limescale, the resin is flushed with a brine solution. The brine solution flushes the limescale contamination away to the sewer. The water softener is then ready to remove another batch of limescale.
